Commentaries on the Legend and Community source

Like in the legend of Gem Soup, Gem Soup LLC helps the FpML developer and user community to create something of great value by catalyzing and guiding the process. Also like in the legend, Gem Soup adds something of value to the soup in addition to mere process know how.

One difference, however, is that in the legend the magic ingredient is a non-consumable attraction, where the ingredients we add to the soup include imaginatively conceived and solidly engineered software components and financial product knowledge.

There are other variations on the Gem Soup legend. Often these variations are called Stone Soup and involve three hungry soldiers making a soup in a village using a garden-variety stone. This variation on the legend is often used as an analogy for Open Source software development. However, at least one commentator (Nathan Torkington) has pointed out that the stone soup variation of the legend is not a great analogy for open source development because the creator of the soup must add much more than a valueless stone.
